  1.         CORNEAL SENSITIVITY

  4. If there is an indication that the 
  5. patient may have a decrease in corneal 
  6. sensitivity then it should be measured.  
  7.  
  8. The common technique is to use a small 
  9. wisp of cotton.  Bring the cotton wisp 
  10. in from the side of the patient and 
  11. lightly touch the cornea to determine 
  12. if there is a blink reflex.
  13.  
  14. More accurate techniques can be used such as the 
  15. Cochet-Bonnet aesthesiometer.
  16.  
  17. Corneal sensitivity varies with age, 
  18. eye color, corneal position, eye 
  19. closure and decreased oxygen.
  20.
